Dive the Underwater Hot Springs

This tour to the underwater hot springs in the lake KleifarvatnVideo on Kleifarvatn is a truly amazing and unique experience for scuba divers.
We also call this tour the "Geothermal Dive Tour" because we will visit geothermal hot spring areas both underwater and on land.
The underwater hot springs have just recently been discovered and the dive site is just a 100m swim away from the beach of the lake.

Diving in Iceland - Kleifarvatn hot springs
Hot springs in Kleifarvatn © Tobias Klose, DIVE.IS
The landscape is stunning, only 30 minutes out of Reykjavik and one can experience complete silence in the most beautiful surroundings.
In order to get to the dive site we will have to take our 4x4 dive bus, since only rugged tire tracks lead to the site in the middle of nowhere.
Close to the beach we park the dive bus and walk down to the water to give you a briefing on this geologically unique dive site.
If the wind direction is right, we can already smell our hot springs.
We put on our gear and walk to the entry point. When walking into the water to put on fins and mask one can already see the white and yellow sulfur deposits on the lake floor and the gas bubbles come up in between.
In the center area of the hot springs is a hole in the lake floor where a lot of water and gases come up. When diving into this hole, one has the feeling of diving into an earthquake because the air bubbles coming out of the ground create pressure that lets the rocks vibrate. Divers can feel these vibrations deep into their bones. A very special experience!

After the dive we will pack our gear together and drive down the tire tracks to Krysuvík, a geothermal hot spring area nearby. In Krysuvík we will marvel at the mud pots and hot springs and the colorful sulfur deposits before we make our way back to Reykjavik.
If you like you can bring your swimming clothes with you and we can drop you off at one of Reykjaviks wonderful geothermal pools where you can hang out in the hot tubs and end the day geothermally.

4-day Westman Islands Expedition

The Westman Islands is a small archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. These group of islands are one of the best kept secrets both above as under the water surface.
The view over the high and steep cliffs inhabited by millions of birds is an absolutely stunning view on arrival by ferry from the mainland.

A starfish in front of dead man fingers - Iceland © Reimund Hübner
In the years 2008 and 2009 we have conducted a few minor expeditions as part of longer tours to the Westman Islands and we have discovered a couple of amazing dive sites here. Among other sites, a huge underwater arch, walls covered with soft coralls and a cave cutting straight through a 120m wide and 100m high mountain. On our last visits we have collected information on a number of very interesting and promising dive spots while talking to locals and other divers as well as fisherman.
On this expedition we will spend most our dives on exploring new dive sites that we have heard about but no one has dived so far. We will also dedicate two of our dives to the two most stunning dive sites we already know around the Islands.

This expedition is planned for the 10.9.-13.9.2011.

7-day Westfjord Expedition

In October 2010 six of our instructors got together for an expedition to Iceland‘s remarkable Westfjords. The Westfjords are the most remote and sparsely populated area in Iceland. They are characterized by dramatic fjords and towering angular cliffs rising sharply from the deep blue seas. It was an amazing experience for us to travel this area and even though we had 5 days exploration time we hardly scratched the surface concerning discovering the undiscoverd dive sites we have heard about and had researched on.
A wolffish in the dark - Iceland
A wolffish in the dark - Iceland © Tobias Klose
However, the dives we did were amazing. Amazing walls, diving with seals, a whale graveyard with heaps of whale bones, a big old ancient wreck and more wrecks. We talked to many different insiders in the area and heard about many other wrecks, great nature dive sites and the geothermal chimneys of the Westfjords.

On this expedition we will spend about half of our dives discovering new dive sites we have already heard about but never got the chance to dive. We look very much forward to revisit and show you the highlights of what we found last year. On land we will see many of the unique sights of this amazing area of Iceland including amazing mountains & fjords, incredible waterfalls, some of the worlds largest bird cliffs, pictoresque little villages and deserted farms and whaling stations that stimulate your imagination of forgotten times.

This expedition is planned for the 3.9.-9.9.2011.
